Tom Symonds considers Ayr raid with Don Bersy

Thu 2 Nov 2017

Tom Symonds is considering giving Don Bersy his first run of the campaign at Ayr on Saturday after deciding not to take him to Ascot the same day.

Insufficient give in the ground has persuaded Symonds to opt out of going to the Berkshire venue, but he has not ruled out a trip north of the border for the Tennent's Cup Scottish Champion Hurdle Trial Handicap Hurdle.

"Looking at Ascot, I don't think there is any rain there and if you look at his form his best form is all on soft ground and Ayr is a distinct possibility," said the Ross-on-Wye handler.

"We would have loved to run at Ffos Las in the Welsh Champion Hurdle but he would have been out the handicap with The New One running. He is fine and we are just waiting for rain.

"He will tell us where to go and we will go the handicap route."

Don Bersy has won three races over hurdles since his transfer to Symonds' yard last November and was last seen finishing third in a juvenile handicap hurdle at Newbury in March.
