Take Cover back at Goodwood seeking more King George glory

Wed 2 Aug 2017

Take Cover will face 11 rivals when he bids for a third victory in the Qatar King George Stakes at Goodwood on Friday.

David Griffiths' admirable sprinter lifted this five-furlong dash in 2014 and 2016 and was only beaten a head in the 2015 renewal.

The 10-year-old showed he was as good as ever when winning the City Walls Stakes at York on his latest start.

His opponents include Charlie Hills' progressive three-year-old Battaash, who was a dominant winner of the Coral Charge at Sandown on his latest appearance.

David Simcock has supplemented Fitri Hay's Glass Office for this Group Two contest, while Aidan O'Brien's Washington DC is the sole Irish hopeful.

Last year's Prix de l'Abbaye scorer Marsha and the Clive Cox-trained pair of Profitable and Priceless also stand their ground in a quality renewal.

The list is completed by Final Venture, Kachy, Ardad, Kyllang Rock and Yalta.

The only withdrawal from the confirmation stage was the William Haggas-trained Muthmir, who won the race two years ago.
