Poet's Word team hoping for Hong Kong run

Connections of Poet's Word are sitting tight to see if the four-year-old receives an invitation for one of the big middle-distance races in Hong Kong next month.

The colt, trained by Sir Michael Stoute, is a possible for the 10-furlong Hong Kong Cup or the Hong Kong Vase over a mile and a half, following two good runs to finish second in the both the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown and the Qipco Champion Stakes at Ascot last month.

"He is entered in the Hong Kong races over a mile and a quarter and a mile and a half on December 10," said Bruce Raymond, racing manager for owner Saeed Suhail. "He has got to get an invitation yet and I don't know what Sir Michael's plans are.

"It depends what else goes, but it is a possibility that he could go there as he is still in full training. His main aim is the Sheema Classic.

"He has done well this year. I think a mile and a half is his best trip, but he has been pretty good over a mile and a quarter."
