Sevenna Star hails from a very good German middle-distance/staying family and ran a mighty race on debut when second to well backed favourite Kitaabaat in the 1m novice at Sandown on Wednesday.
John Gosden's newcomer came from off the pace and was full of running at the line.
He is bred to improve over further and has the size to mature impressively next term.
On Friday, Melodies ran a cracker in the 7f fillies’ conditions stakes at Newbury. Ed Dunlop’s well-bred daughter of Iffraaj put in good late work over this trip at Salisbury on debut two weeks earlier and looks ready for a step up in distance.
Taking a keen hold, she chased the leader three-out and was ridden two-out before being outpaced. Appearing likely to drop away, the half sister to Mount Nelson rallied inside the final furlong and finished full of running behind exciting newcomer Magnolia Springs.
The runner-up is crying out for a step up in trip.
Last time, this fine filly produced a hugely encouraging display on debut in a 7f fillies' maiden at Salisbury.
The dam is Singersongwriter, who won over this trip at two.
The mare is also a half-sister to Group One winner Mount Nelson and Group Two winner Monitor Closely from the family of Derby winner Reference Point. Settled in rear, Jim Crowley's mount made headway under sympathetic handling and switched to the inner when running on in the final two furlongs. She finished a never-nearer fourth and is clearly building on that opening effort. Very promising.
On the same Newbury card, Rewaayat was unsuited by seeing plenty of daylight after leaving stall fifteen in the second division of the 6f maiden.
Drawn on the wing in this big field, the well-bred son of Pivotal was making his debut but wasn't the quickest away and lacked cover through the first furlong.
Settled by halfway, the colt was given a stiff reminder two-out and stayed on without troubling the leaders.
There is plenty to build on after this promising debut.
This is the first foal of Rufoof, who won at 7f, and is a half-sister to Group 1 winner Muhaarar, 7f winner Tamaathul and 6f two-year-old Listed winner Sajwah. Rewaayat holds a Dewhurst entry and remains an exciting prospect.
