Journey could defend crown on Champions Day at Ascot

Wed 9 Aug 2017

Journey could bid for back-to-back victories in the Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes at Ascot on October 21.

John Gosden's runner was a four-length winner of the Group One prize last term, having finished second in 2015.

"We're certainly looking at the race with Journey and for her to come back and do the double would be terrific. We may have one or two others in there too," said Gosden, who has also entered Enable, Coronet, So Mi Dar and The Black Princess.

Journey was last seen when finishing a disappointing 10th behind Roger Varian's Nezwaah in the Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh in July and that filly is also entered at Ascot.

"No decision has been taken about future plans for Nezwaah," said Varian.

"She is pleasing me, but we aren't looking any further forward than her next race at this stage. The British Champions Fillies' & Mares' Stakes is a possible target and will come under consideration nearer the time."

Aidan O'Brien has seven possibles including Classic winners Winter and Seventh Heaven, while German Oaks winner Lacazar has been given the option by trainer Peter Schiergen.
