John Ryan books Gerald Mosse for Flat season launch

John Ryan is hoping his link-up with French jockey Gerald Mosse can get off to a flying start on the opening day of the Flat turf season at Doncaster on Saturday.

The Newmarket trainer has booked Mosse for the rides on Grey Britain in the 32Red Lincoln and Roland Rocks in the Unibet Cammidge Trophy. Both horses will arrive for their targets on Town Moor race-fit after a spell in Dubai.

"Gerald has been riding out for me in Dubai. He's just been to Hong Kong this weekend, he's flying back over on Friday to ride for me and then back out to Dubai," said Ryan.

"We've had a good connection this year since he started coming to England and he's going to ride the majority of this season in England. He's going to be based in Newmarket, so he'll be riding a lot for me. We're going to try to start off in the right way."

Ryan won the Lincoln with Ocean Tempest in 2014 and believes Grey Britain can outrun his odds of around 33-1.

He said: "There wasn't a prep race to suit him over here so we took him to Dubai and he's come back in top order.

"I think at a big price, he's definitely got an each-way chance."

Roland Rocks was highly tried as a juvenile, competing in three Group Two contests, including the Vintage Stakes, won by Expert Eye, at Glorious Goodwood.

"He ran well on easy ground at Goodwood. We always thought he could handle all sorts," said Ryan.

"Going out to Dubai we wanted to find out if he was going to be a seven-furlong/miler, which is what his sire Red Jazz became, or whether he was going to retain a bit more speed.

"He showed speed is his thing."
