George Chaloner is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering multiple injuries in a fall at Newcastle on Wednesday.
The rider fell from Woodacre, who faltered approaching the final furlong and suffered a fatal injury in the opening mile-and-a-half handicap.
Chaloner was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary for further assessment and reports he has broken his foot as well as suffering a suspected fractured vertebrae.
He tweeted: "Thanks for all the kind messages. Getting settled in Newcastle Hospital for a day or two. Suspected fractured T8 and a broken foot."
Chaloner was having his first ride of 2017 having broken his collar bone in November and in late 2015 he broke his foot and ankle in an accident on the gallops.
