Friday's National Hunt meeting at Haydock must pass a 4pm inspection later today with parts of the course frozen but officials are confident the meeting will go ahead.
Clerk of the course Kirkland Tellwright called a 1pm inspection with temperatures due to rise.
The going is currently soft, frozen in places, after a frosty start to Thursday.
Tellwright said: "I'm confident we'll race but we've gone through it painstakingly and felt it best to let people know where we are.
"We're not fit to race at the moment but we expect to pass the inspection later.
"It might be we then call a precautionary inspection for the morning but I couldn't call this one precautionary as, at present, we're not raceable.
"We're fully expecting to race but I just wanted to let people be aware of the situation."
After the first inspection proved inconclusive, Tellwright called a second check for 4pm as parts of the course were still frozen.
