Global Applause set to sign off for season with Dundalk date

Global Applause is likely to have his last run of 2018 in the Group Three Mercury Stakes at Dundalk on October 19.

Robert Cowell is eyeing the five-furlong dash for the four-year-old who has won both his starts since joining the Newmarket trainer from Ed Dunlop’s stable.

“He’s in the Group Three in Ireland in the middle of next month. That’s his most likely target and then he’ll be put away for the year,” said Cowell.

Global Applause won the Listed Scarbrough Stakes at Doncaster earlier this month with his stablemate Encore D’Or beaten a length in third place.

He too might go for the Dundalk feature or stay on home soil for a Listed race at Ascot.

“He’s gone up in the handicap as well and he’s an all-weather performer so he’ll probably go there as well, but we’ll see,” said Cowell.

“Those two will probably head on over there.

“If not, we may run Encore D’Or in a Listed race at Ascot. If we can keep them apart, we will do.”
