Dolphin Vista get back to winning ways in Doonside Cup at Ayr

Watch a full replay of how Dolphin Vista battled to victory in the feature race at Ayr plus an interview with Ralph Beckett.

Last season’s Cambridgeshire hero Dolphin Vista rediscovered the winning trail in the William Hill Doonside Cup at Ayr.

The son of Zoffany registered four victories during a three-year spell with Richard Fahey, before joining Martyn Meade in the middle of last season.

The change of yards appeared to have the desired effect as he was a 50-1 winner of the first leg of the ‘autumn double’ 12 months ago.

However, after trailing home last in the Lincoln at Doncaster in March, the five-year-old was on the move again and he made his second start for Ralph Beckett in the Listed feature on the first day of the Western meeting in Scotland.

Ridden by Danny Tudhope, the 14-1 shot raced wide but on the pace throughout and displayed a willing attitude in the closing stages of the 10-furlong contest to get the better of Morando by half a length.

Beckett told Racing UK: “He’s done it well. Obviously he won the Cambridgeshire last year and we just felt he wasn’t well enough handicapped to win two Cambridgeshires in a row.

“He loves this ground and it was a bit of a plan after his first run for us at Epsom (finished second).

“He arrived here in very good shape and he was very well beforehand, so I was hopeful he’d run well.”

Beckett revealed Dolphin Vista could have his sights raised for a Group Two prize on Arc weekend in Paris next month.

“It was a good effort and we’ll have to work out what we do next,” he added. “I should probably have him in the Prix Dollar. I don’t, but that might be an option – supplementing for that.”
