Declan Carroll excited ahead of Santry's Gimcrack bid

Royal Ascot runner-up Santry remains on course to return to action in the Al Basti Equiworld Gimcrack Stakes at York.

Winner of the Brocklesby Stakes at Doncaster at the start of April, Declan Carroll's youngster followed up in impressive style at York the following month to earn himself a tilt at the Norfolk Stakes in Berkshire.

He was a narrowly beaten second behind Sioux Nation in the Group Two contest, pulling nicely clear of subsequent July Stakes winner Cardsharp in third.

Santry will tackle six furlongs for the first time on the Knavesmire on August 26 and Carroll is relishing the challenge.

"He's in great form and it's all systems go for the Gimcrack at York," said the Norton-based trainer.

"The form from Royal Ascot has worked out brilliantly so that (Gimcrack) looks the obvious next race for him.

"He's a lovely horse and we're lucky to have him."
