Dave Nevison's top tips for Saturday: Duretto rates a banker

Our betting expert Dave Nevison suggests his three best bets for Saturday, including a 16-1 chance at Sandown.

1.50 Sandown: Rapid Applause

Frankie Dettori is an interesting booking for the two Mick Easterby runners at Sandown on Saturday and I am very keen on one of them.

In recent seasons you would have done your money backing the combo on the rare occasions they have teamed up but I still believe there is significance in the booking and I am very strong on the chance of Rapid Applause in the opening sprint.

This horse has not run for four months but backing Easterby favourites (Regal Applause will almost certainly be market leader here) after a similar absence is a very profitable angle. I am definitely not concerned about that and an Ayr Gold Cup entry suggests a plan is afoot.

Well drawn in stall three and with most of his in form rivals being out wide I can see few negatives.

2.25 Sandown: Restorer at a general 16-1

This is a competitive handicap but Restorer is definitely worth backing at big odds.

Ian Williams is always a positive in handicaps for me and demonstrated that when getting this one to make all at Chester on his first run for him, having previously been trained by William Muir.

He disappointed next time but although only fifth at Newmarket last time he ran well behind progressive, younger horses.

Sandown will suit his style of running and not many in this field are on an upward curve.

James Doyle is a significant booking and hopefully he can resist a late challenge from History Writer, who looks set to benefit from the step up in distance.

3.15 Chester: Duretto at Evens with Coral

Backing Andrew Balding runners on the Roodeye is not bad advice and this Duretto, who seeks a repeat win in this race, can be the afternoon’s banker.

Duretto ran a fantastic race last time out at Newmarket at Group 2 level, especially as it was over just 12 furlongs.

The extra distance on Saturday and drop in class is absolutely ideal and I will be very surprised if he does not win.
