Dave Nevison: Normandie Stud representative can strike at Newbury

Dave Nevison concentrates on the action at Newbury and Market Rasen on Saturday.

The horses owned by Normandie Stud usually have one word names, and often have one major attribute.

They stay well and their ratings improve when they get the opportunity to run over middle distances and further.

I am absolutely certain that Nathan will be a horse who comes from a similar mould, but equally I do not think Alan King is doing anything wrong in keeping this three-year-old to 10 furlongs in the opener at Newbury on Saturday.

The son of King George winner Nathaniel showed he has enough speed to win over this ten-furlong trip last time out at Bath. He will enjoy a big galloping track like Newbury much more and can win the opener against several horses who are now beginning to look very exposed.

Red Mist beat a useful type on his debut at Sandown last time and although I have expressed doubts about Frankel as a sire several times on the channel recently I have no issues with them over staying trips.

Simon Crisford’s runner dug in well to beat Bathsheba Bay (subsequently came up against a good one in Dee Ex Bee at Goodwood) last time. Under Silvestre de Sousa I think he can show the necessary improvement to outstay Hey Gaman, who impressed when winning in a small field at Newmarket Last time out, in the Denford Stakes over seven furlongs.

The last time Kapgarde King was a winner Page Fuller was on board and she is reunited with this largely progressive six-year-old at Market Rasen tonight.

He finished fairly tired last time out at Newton Abbot, but that was still a very good run and he really should come on for it. His rivals are a motley crew, who do not like winning and this looks a serious opportunity for Kapgarde King to win again.

Dave Nevison's Saturay tips:

1.20 Newbury: Nathan at 5-2 with Coral, Ladbrokes and BetVictor

1.50 Newbury: Red Mist at 4-1 with bet365, BetVictor and William Hill

6.30 Market Rasen: Kapagarde King at 9-2 with Betfair
