Cambridgeshire in the picture for Sandown scorer Thundering Blue

Thundering Blue completed a hat-trick for French-born trainer David Menuisier in the BetBright Recall Handicap at Sandown.

The four-year-old grey was 11-2 to add to his recent victories at Epsom and Newmarket.

After being ridden patiently by champion jockey Jim Crowley, he finished strongly and despite jinking to his left once hitting the front, he was well on top at the line, scoring by a length and a half.

Monarchs Glen just beat Rotherwick to the runner-up spot.

"He was a bit slow away, they went a nice pace and I didn't want to rush him early on," said Crowley.

"He came into the race really well and he just runs around a little bit. I gave him a flick with the stick and he ducked away from it.

"He's a bit quirky, but he's got some ability."

Menuisier said: "I wasn't too worried at the top of the straight, I was just hoping they went fast enough in front. He does win races from the back as he has a really good turn of foot.

"Today he's done something special. When he was third at Epsom before the hat-trick, he made up about 16 lengths in the last furlong, so we knew that day that he was definitely on the up. He's just unstoppable!

"I think the Cambridgeshire (Newmarket, September 30) would suit him as you would have a lot of pace in that race. It did cross my mind to try and win today and go there if we can.

"He doesn't mind softer or quicker ground."
