'All roads lead to Dewhurst' for 2000 Guineas favourite Expert Eye

Mon 2 Oct 2017

Expert Eye is firmly on course for the Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday week.

Sir Michael Stoute's youngster created a huge impression when winning the Vintage Stakes at Glorious Goodwood by four and a half lengths.

That form could hardly have worked out any better, with the fourth James Garfield and fifth Seahenge subsequently winning the Mill Reef and Champagne Stakes respectively.

Stoute had hoped to take 2000 Guineas favourite Expert Eye to the Curragh for the National Stakes, but he met with a minor setback.

"He's in good form and all roads lead to the Dewhurst," said Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to owner Khalid Abdullah.

"He's working nicely again and we're back on track with him.

"It would certainly cap a great season were he to win."
