Fixtures are held on the famous Knavesmire from May to October, with a host of prestigious races from the Dante Stakes, through to top handicaps such as the John Smith's Cup. The now four-day Ebor Festival in August features the Juddmonte International, the Yorkshire Oaks, Nunthorpe Stakes and of course, the Ebor itself. The course, opened in 1731, is a galloping two-miles and was extended to stage longer races in 2005 when Royal Ascot was re-routed to York.
