Along with Downpatrick as the only racecourses in Northern Ireland, Down Royal is best known for its two-day jumps meeting in November featuring the Grade One James Nicholson Wine Merchant Chase, the Killultagh Properties Chase and Anglo Irish Bank Hurdle.
Down Royal is a right-handed, undulating course of one mile and seven furlongs in length with an uphill finish. Its history goes back over 300 years to the reign of James II and was created by royal chartr in 1685. It is 16km south of Belfast City.
