Ascot

Royal Ascot in June is one of the biggest events in the social as well as the racing calendar. The course is six miles from Windsor and was founded in 1711 by Queen Anne. However, until 1945, the only racing that took place was the Royal meeting. More fixtures were then scheduled with major races such as the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes created. Jump racing has been held there since 1965.

The course was closed for 20 months in September 2004, for a £185 million redevelopment, and was reopened by The Queen in June 2006.
