Starscope back at Sandown
Saturday 7 July 2012
Coronation Stakes runner-up Starscope returns to action at Sandown today when she contests the Listed Coral Distaff.
The John Gosden-trained filly banished memories of a surprise reverse at Newbury in May when she got to within three and a quarter lengths of stablemate Fallen For You at Royal Ascot. She had earlier finished second in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket.
"She came out of the Coronation very well and we are very happy with her. We were particularly delighted to see her come back to form after a rather flat display at Newbury. We hoped it was a one-off, and she showed in the Coronation that was the case," said Chris Richardson, for owners and breeders Cheveley Park Stud.
"She got very upset in the paddock at Newbury, so it was very satisfying to see her deal with the razzmatazz of Royal Ascot. It looks like the ground will be in her favour at Sandown, which is important for her."
Starscope still holds an entry in the Etihad Airways Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket on Friday week, but Richardson said: "I haven't discussed it with the boss yet, so we'll take it one step at a time."
