Main Sequence is likely to take on the Triple Crown-seeking Camelot in the Ladbrokes St Leger after pleasing connections in his final serious workout on Saturday.

Runner-up to Aidan O'Brien's star in the Investec Derby, the David Lanigan-trained colt has the Prix Niel at Longchamp the following day as an alternative engagement should there be a late change of plan.

"He worked very nicely and he's on course to go to Doncaster for the St Leger, all being well," said Alan Cooper, racing manager to owners the Niarchos family.

"He's a very good horse and the plan is to run there. The Prix Niel is there in case we need it.

"The Leger is the objective and the Classic over one mile and six furlongs is about staying.

"The horse is very well and David is pleased with him."

Since chasing home Camelot in the Derby, Main Sequence has been an unlucky fourth in the Grand Prix de Paris at Longchamp and a strong-finishing second in the Great Voltigeur Stakes at York behind Thought Worthy.
