Born To Sea

Born To Sea remains on course for next month's Red Mills Irish Champion Stakes, despite being beaten as an odds-on favourite at the Curragh last week.

A half-brother to the great Sea The Stars, Born To Sea has been highly tried this term, with his best result coming when he was second to Camelot in the Irish Derby.

After running too freely in the 2000 Guineas, Oxx put a hood on the son of Invincible Spirit and that appeared to help him settle. However, he ran without the headgear when beaten six and a half lengths by Famous Name, although Oxx believes there may have been another factor in his defeat.

The trainer said: "He was a bit keen and maybe the hood will be back on him next time. I think he just blew up a bit as with the weather being so wet - the Curragh was particularly badly affected by the rain - we couldn't use the grass gallops.

"He just probably didn't get enough work in on the all-weather and was a bit short on the day.

"I think he can do better than that and we're going to stick to the plan and run in the Irish Champion Stakes, possibly with the hood back on."
