Newcastle given go-ahead
Wednesday 27 June 2012
This afternoon's meeting at Newcastle goes ahead following a course inspection.
Heavy rain had put the fixture in jeopardy, but a delegation of racing officials were happy with conditions following an assessment of the Gosforth Park circuit at noon. The going is currently heavy.
"It's going to be a watching brief right the way through the afternoon as there is possibly rain and showers forecast," said clerk of the course James Armstrong.
"If they (showers) materialise and take things to another level, we'll obviously have to monitor the situation again and play it all by ear.
"We'll keep fingers crossed it stays bright and things progress as we hope."
Newcastle are also due to race on Friday and Saturday, with the John Smith's Northumberland Plate the feature race at the weekend.
