Motivado states case for Ebor

Friday 3 August 2012

Motivado has the race in the bag

Motivado booked his ticket for the Ebor Handicap at York by storming five lengths clear on his unscheduled appearance in the Toyo Tires Performance Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

Sir Mark Prescott's gigantic gelding (11-2 favourite) had not enjoyed the experience of running on desperate ground in the Northumberland Plate, but had at least shown more encouragement at York last time.

The trainer's logic dictated Motivado would need to pick up a penalty for winning here in order to gain entry to the Betfred Ebor, and jockey Luke Morris made it happen.

"He didn't like the ground at Newcastle at all but I was less worried at York and much more relieved after that," said Prescott.

"I had in my mind to go straight for the Ebor, but even my maths could work out that he'd have to turn up here. You'll never see a bigger horse."

Paddy Power chalked Motivado as the 4-1 favourite for the Ebor, with William Hill offering 6s.
