Kitty on course for Nunthorpe

Tuesday 24 July 2012

Ceiling Kitty

Tom Dascombe is excited about the chances of Ceiling Kitty in the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York on August 24.

The Red Clubs filly has won her last three starts, including the prestigious Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot. Given she is only a juvenile and a filly to boot, the weight allowances she receives in the Group One are such that connections feel obliged to let herthave a crack at her elders.

The last two-year-old filly to win the race was Lyric Fantasy in 1992, with Kingsgate Native the last juvenile to win in 2007.

"Ceiling Kitty will go straight for the Nunthorpe," said Dascombe.

"As she'll only have to carry 7st 12lb, I think she'll go there with every chance as long as it's not too soft.

"Unfortunately Richard (Kingscote) won't be able to do the weight so we'll just have to get the best available jockey who can do 7st 12lb."
