Goodwood return on Al agenda

Tuesday 7 August 2012

Roger Varian

Aljamaaheer could return to Goodwood for the Betfred Celebration Mile on August 25 after his luckless run last week.

Roger Varian's three-year-old flew home after meeting trouble in running in the Group Three RSA Thoroughbred Stakes, on his first run over a mile.

Paul Hanagan was left repeatedly frustrated on finding his passage blocked and was only beaten three-quarters of a length by the dead-heating pair of Trumpet Major and Archbishop.

"I thought he was the moral winner," said Varian.

"It was very frustrating to miss out on a major race at a showpiece meeting but we know we've got a good horse on our hands. He didn't win but his performance encouraged us for the future.

"He got stopped twice in his run and with a clear passage he would have won comfortably, that's my view anyway. He just needs a bit of luck.

"I thought he got the mile well. Paul was very frustrated after the race but was pleased with the run at the same time.

"Races like the Sovereign Stakes and the Celebration Mile back at Goodwood will be where we are looking as he's proved he's up to that class.

"There's lots to look forward to."
