Glorious Goodwood betting guide
Saturday 28 July 2012
Glorious Goodwood hosts two of the most fiendishly difficult handicaps in the British Flat calendar.
The five-day meeting, which takes place next week, stages the £125,000 Betfred Mile on Friday, August 3, and then the 30-runner Blue Square Stewards’ Cup the following day.
Racing UK’s big-race analysts have delved into the form of the Stewards' Cup for you below, but first up is Richard Hoiles and Nick Luck, who have poured over the statistics to come up with a definitive analysis of which jockeys and trainers are best over the unique camber of Goodwood racecourse.
Richard uses the example of Kerrin McEvoy, who when he was riding in Britain proved to be one of the most sublime riders of the switchback track.
Racing UK have used a ground-breaking 3D overview of Goodwood to illustrate what options face jockeys in the heat of races at the course.
Richard and Nick then dissect the Betfred Mile.
Richard looks at the draw and delves into what effect it can have as 19 runners try to navigate the twists and turns of the idiosyncratic track.
Andy Richmond and Alex Steedman then take an in-depth look at the Stewards’ Cup.
Richmond, who describes the race as ‘a quick death,’ as the six furlongs only took Hoof It 1m 9.91secs to run last year, looks in to the records of sprint kings Dandy Nicholls and James Fanshawe and highlights two against the field to take note of.
