Frosty pops up at Southwell

Mister Frosty provided a victory that was both topical and emotional for George Prodromou when scooting six lengths clear in division two of the Place Only Betting At bluesq.com Amateur Riders' Handicap at Southwell.

The grey was involved in a nasty incident on a journey home from the racecourse last summer, and the Norfolk trainer was delighted to see him romp home at 11-2 in the hands of David Dunsdon.

"He had been working very well, as they all have been, and to be honest we couldn't hear of defeat. We got a good boy on board and he gave him a lovely ride. He'll run again at Lingfield on Saturday, and Kieren Fallon will ride," he said.

"He ran at Folkestone last summer and we put him in the box to go home, but something upset him and he jumped across the partition in the box. He was stuck for two and a half hours, the vets came and said the horse was going to die. We got him out and his owner has been very patient. It brought a tear to my eye."

Aqua Ardens defied 1-8 favourite Derivatives in the Golf Before Racing At Southwell Maiden Stakes. The pair had it between them throughout the six furlongs, but Aqua Ardens (8-1) showed a greater determination under Stephen Craine to finish half a length ahead.

Trainer George Baker said: "It's the oldest cliche in racing, but you should never be afraid of one horse. I didn't think the favourite was absolutely bomb-proof and it worked out. My wife Candida is riding in the charity race at the Cheltenham Festival and I suppose he could be a possible ride, although I have other options."

There was a Royal Ascot winner in action, even if Drawnfromthepast's greatest moment came in the dim and distant past of the 2007 Windsor Castle Stakes.

Back with original trainer Jamie Osborne and now carrying the silks of Dr Marwan Koukash, the 4-6 favourite had little problem in making it back-to-back victories at basement level in the Southwell Golf Club Members Selling Stakes.

Samasana (9-2) claimed the Book Your Tickets On-Line At southwell-racecourse.co.uk Maiden Handicap, with Laura's Bairn (10-1) making all the running under Freddie Tylicki in the Golf And Racing At Southwell Handicap.

Bandstand (12-1) called the tune in the Thousands Of Sports Experiences At bluesq.com Handicap, while the show was closed in the Play Rainbow Riches At bluesq.com Handicap by Alan Swinbank's Tricksofthetrade (9-2).
