Crocodile snaps up prize

Crocodile Bay secured a second course and distance victory at Lingfield in less than a fortnight as he opened an afternoon of all-weather racing in the Bet On Today's Football At bluesq.com Apprentice Handicap.
Charles Eddery rode the nine-year-old in a similar way to Nora Looby on January 25 as he tracked Divine Rule into the home straight and battled three-quarters of a length clear.
Crocodile Bay (13-2) had not managed to recreate that effort at Southwell during the week, but confined the outing to history on his 106th career start.
"He loves racing and Charles gave him a great ride," said Kevin Hughes, representing trainer Richard Guest.
Guest managed a first and third for owners rakebackmypoker.com in division one of the Blue Square Sprint Series Round 5 Handicap.
Waabel took the field along in the six-furlong heat, but it was 3-1 favourite Cut The Cackle who charged down the outside under William Carson to collect by a length and a quarter.
Carson and the mare owed connections a good turn as she looked an unlucky loser on her latest run at Kempton, when the blindfold was pulled off late and she did not get a clear run.
Owner Stephen Arnold said: "She's got it back today. Waabel's already qualified for the final here on February 25 and Cut The Cackle will hopefully get into a 0-70 in the next round and pick up enough points to sneak into the final too."
Ian Burns, who was granted a spell of work experience in Australia recently, celebrated his second win on Twinkled (13-8 favourite) in the Blue Square Carnival iPhone App Selling Stakes. The chestnut came wide around the bend, but had plenty in hand to finish three-quarters of a length clear of Tuxedo.
Burns said: "Mr (Michael) Bell arranged for me to go to Australia to ride for Gai Waterhouse and I had a winner in a trial over there. It was brilliant. That's my fifth winner over here and I hope to get as many as I can."
