Mount Mews to bypass Ascot option in favour of Kelso’s Premier prize

Mount Mews will skip an engagement at Ascot on Saturday to wait for the Premier Kelso Novices' Hurdle at Kelso.

Malcolm Jefferson's promising youngster has won four of his fives races to date, with a narrow defeat at Wetherby the only blot on his record.

Connections were considering heading south with him, but he will stay slightly closer to home and wait for the Grade Two event on March 4 instead.

"He won't run at Ascot and we'll wait for Kelso," said Jefferson.

"He's a horse I really like and I'm convinced we haven't seen anywhere near the best of him yet.

"I just hope it starts to dry up at Kelso as he wants some decent ground.

"Ascot looked very tempting, but he can't do both and the Kelso race is worth a good bit more money.

"I'm really keen to see him in a better race because I think the better the race, the better he'll be."
