Walsh: He’s retired a legend
Wednesday 31 October 2012
Ruby Walsh paid tribute to Kauto Star on Racing UK today, describing his pride and joy as a “horse of a lifetime.”
He said: “He meant everything to me but everything comes to an end one day, and he’s retired a legend and in one piece. We had so many great days together and he’s a had a terrific career
“He had everything – speed, stamina and class. He made the odd mistake but he was generally a good jumper and the majority of the time was better than the opposition.
“He had the speed to win the Tingle Creek over two miles and the stamina to win two Gold Cups over three and a quarter miles.”
When asked by Angus McNae to pick out his most memorable moment with Kauto Star, he replied: “As a child I dreamt of winning the Gold Cup, and the pressure was on ahead of his first Gold Cup, but the more the pressure was on, the more he delivered. It was a privilege to ride him.”
