Oscars well for Punchestown start

Oscars Well

Jessica Harrington is taking nothing for granted as top-class hurdler Oscars Well makes his debut over fences in the Book New Years Eve Panoramic Restaurant Beginners Chase at Punchestown.

A dual Grade One winner and sixth in last season's Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham, Oscars Well is one of the more exciting novice chase prospects in Ireland this term.

The County Kildare trainer has been pleased with the seven-year-old's schooling over the bigger obstacles at home and has her fingers crossed he can transfer that to the track.

"He's going well and seems to jump well at home, but you never know until they go out and do it. We're just hoping for the best," said Harrington.

"He had a good summer break and did very well. Hopefully he can do himself justice."

Among his 12 rivals is the Gordon Elliott-trained Plan A, who was runner-up behind Special Tiara on his fencing bow at Ballinrobe five weeks ago and finished fourth in both the County Hurdle and the Galway Hurdle before that.
