Dettori guides Tree to Canada success

Monday 15 October 2012

Joshua Tree

Frankie Dettori gave Marco Botti's Joshua Tree a stunning ride from the front to land the Pattison Canadian International, leading home the James Fanshawe-trained Dandino for a British one-two in the mile-and-a-half showpiece at Woodbine.

Soon at the head of affairs, Dettori set just a steady gallop on the Prix Foy third, who won this race in 2010 when with Aidan O'Brien, and saved plenty for the business end, getting everything on the stretch before having just enough left to hold Dandino, who flashed home in the hands of Jim Crowley.

The ex-Luca Cumani inmate Forte Dei Marmi was third with Michael Bell's Wigmore Hall running on for fourth. O'Brien's Imperial Monarch travelled well for a long way under Ryan Moore and appeared to have every chance. It was a third Canadian International win for Dettori after Mutafaweq (2000) and Sulamani (2004).
