Molly pounces in Cadran

High Jinx fared best of the overseas challengers in the Prix du Cadran at Longchamp but failed to catch Mikel Delzangles' stayer Molly Malone.

Jamie Spencer attempted to make all on Vadamar, a stablemate of the winner, and for a brief moment he looked to have slipped the field.

Molly Malone stayed on relentlessly under Umberto Rispoli, though, and ended up winning going away.

The Gold Cup winner Colour Vision was handy throughout but was denied second close home by Graham Lee and High Jinx, who looked one of the first beaten before staying on strongly.

John Oxx's Saddler's Rock made some progress from the back but was never on terms.

Newmarket trainer James Fanshawe said of High Jinx: "It was a real grind and the testing ground took the speed out of him. He did well to finish second and was very game. I'll put him away and aim at the Cup races next season."

Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford said of the Saeed bin Suroor-trained, Frankie Dettori-ridden Colour Vision: "He's run pound for pound as he did at Doncaster, but is better on faster ground and we'll wait for that to happen."
