Gordon flies home in Foret

Sunday 7 October 2012

Gordon Lord Byron

Gordon Lord Byron came with a late rattle under William Buick to win the Qatar Prix de la Foret for Tom Hogan at Longchamp to justify being supplemented for the Group One event

Stepped back up to seven furlongs, the distance over which he won the City Of York Stakes, the four-year-old looked to have plenty to do a furlong out as David O'Meara's Penitent, also supplemented, made a bold bid for home.

Gordon Lord Byron (5-2 favourite) picked up well, though, and powered home to give Hogan his first Group One success.

The County Tipperary-based trainer said: "All credit to the owner, who has had the guts to stump up 100,000 euros (to supplement). Some friends of ours leased him for the day.

"He's been running on this ground all year in Ireland, but we never imagined it would be this deep. We might take him to Hong Kong for the Mile."
