Levey handed lengthy ban

Thursday 4 October 2012

Sean Levey

Sean Levey has been handed a 17-day suspension by the British Horseracing Authority due to his use of the whip.

The rider was referred to the BHA disciplinary panel after partnering Empowerment at Haydock on September 28 due to it being his fifth offence of improper use of the whip in the past six months.

The panel found Levey had used his whip above the permitted level at Haydock and considered it would have warranted a suspension of two days.

But due to it being Levey's fifth such offence since May 25, the BHA suspended him from riding for 17 days.

The suspension will run from October 12 to October 29 on days in which Flat racing is scheduled to take place.
