David Elsworth's three-year-old Swiss Spirit (3-1 favourite) beat some hardened sprinters to collect his first Group race in the Dubai International Airport World Trophy at Newbury.

Successful over six furlongs at the course earlier in the season, he provided William Buick with his 100th winner of the campaign by powering down the outside of the pack, even if Kingsgate Native flashed home and finished just a short-head behind.

Trevor Harris, owner of Lordship Stud, said: "I've got to give great credit to David and the team, as they have not have the best of years and I think this is their first Group race (win)."

He added: "He is in the Prix de l'Abbaye, and William said there was no reason we shouldn't run him there."
