Broadcast Engineer

Job Title:

Broadcast Engineer

 

Overview:

Technical Operational Role within the Racing UK Production Facility, supporting the Racing UK, Turf TV and GBI channels, edit suites, and any additional channels.  Responsible for the day-to-day running of the technical facilities within the production galleries, and the first point of contact for the gallery staff on all technical (including IT) issues.

 

Qualities:

  • Suitable broadcast engineering experience / qualifications
  • Experience of broadcast technology systems; MCR, vision engineering, lighting control
  • Good working knowledge of IT systems and infrastructures
  • Experience of file-based workflows and systems beneficial
  • Good team working skills
  • Good technical fault finding and lateral thinking skills
  • Ability to work under pressure in a live broadcast environment

 

Responsibilities:

 

MCR

  • First point of contact re technical fault finding
  • Log & monitor fault progress
  • Line-up of all incoming feeds (UK racecourses & ad-hoc international feeds)
  • Line-up of communications circuits
  • Monitoring of all outgoing TX feeds
  • Scheduling of regular incoming lines circuits

 

Studio Operations

  • Operation of Robotic Camera Control (Shotoku)
  • Operation of Studio Lighting Control
  • Vision Engineering of the Studio Cameras

     

File-Based Workflow & Media-Management

  • Checking that all required material is correctly archived
  • Ingesting of all external footage (tape & disk-based)
  • Addition of MetaData to non-“live racing” footage for archive

        

IT

  • Front-line IT Support
  •  Preventative maintenance

 

Ad hoc

  • Support Chief Engineering Manager re ad hoc engineering projects
  • Respond to requirements /requests from the production team

         

Responsible to:

Chief Engineering Manager;

Director of Broadcast;

 

Hours:

Working a 7-day-fortnight shift pattern.  Flexible hours, with some late nights.

 

Basic training on new build facility will be given.
