Edinburgh-born Alex was once the Scot studying English at university in Wales with a vocation for teaching before sport and broadcasting came calling. Initially covering horseracing as a young reporter for the Eastern Daily Press, Alex soon moved onto local BBC before relocating to London to work as a presenter and commentator for Ladbrokes Radio. Commentary work at the capital's greyhound tracks quickly followed along with similar roles in football for Arsenal and Chelsea TV.
When Racing UK was born in 2004 Alex soon became part of the team as a presenter and a regular on the circuit north of the border. ‘Steedo’ has been front man for the channel on Scotland’s big days such as the Ayr Gold Cup and the Scottish Grand National ever since. Alex has been part of Racing UK’s coverage of horseracing’s most significant moments at The Derby, Royal Ascot and The Cheltenham Festival where he was also host on Timeform Cheltenham Radio.
While racing has largely come first for Alex as work and first love, boxing has always been a close, passionate rival. Occasional commentary work on Klitschko fights in Germany became a more permanent fix when Box Nation arrived in 2012. Alex has worked as presenter, commentator and reporter since and hosts his own weekly show on the channel. His heroes include Sugar Ray Leonard, Red Rum and Des Lynam.
