Tanya’s Blog - At Musselburgh the pick is RED TANBER
25 January 2012
Cricket, my saviour, I couldn’t sleep, perhaps the intake of caffeine yesterday courtesy of about six coffees and two teas was the reason, but never mind as through the early hours of the morning my insomnia was no cause for concern, thanks to Australia and India. And what’s more I was treated to double centuries by both Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke, shame MEK Hussey got run out. Cricket then retains attention through to early afternoon as Pakistan bid to continue to rattle England. It all slots in perfectly before the racing.
What is there to say about the weekend, well Pricewise is phenomenal, I wait like thousands of others for his wise words for Cheltenham and Doncaster. Somersby was brilliant and more so Dominic Elsworth, but don’t dismiss Finian’s Rainbow. Left in front too early in my mind he was there to be picked up. This was a Grade One after all. Violin Davis was mightily impressive backed from an early 9-2 to 11-4. Be warned though the betting ring at Ascot was very weak, prices were changed as punters delved into pockets. On canvassing those who stood bravely in these challenging times, they reported turnover to be very low, one rails bookmaker took just £230 on one of the races, by rights that figure should be tenfold at least if not much more!!!!
Greyhound retirees were walked on Sunday not long after I took in J Edgar, well worth seeing if only to see the skills of Clint Eastwood’s direction. Then it was back to the books and stats for the Cheltenham Festival which I have been in the depths of ever since except for a brief few hours when visiting Earls Court and the Betting and Gaming Exhibition yesterday. Plenty to take in there, especially if you are a software anorak or a lover of casino games. Although the Racing Post café did sell good chocolate chip cookies.
After a facile success at Doncaster recently Tour D’Argent is rightly prohibitive odds for Hereford’s first. Keep an eye on RUSS BLANC, not seen since a promising third on hurdles debut at Chepstow in November, he offers the value alternative. Owned by good friend and colleague Mark Jackson, there’ll be an extra cheer emanating from Middlesex if in contention jumping the last. And at Musselburgh the pick is RED TANBER to complete the four-timer at 3:40.
