There will be no empty seats at Goodwood this week!

31 July 2012

Unlike the Olympic venues Goodwood will be packed to the rafters over the next five days for some quality racing, fingers crossed we see a little bit of sunshine and the ground stays on the firm side of good. Sir Henry Cecil states on his website that he won't be attending as he continues with his on-going treatment for cancer but I bet watching Frankel on Racing UK will be a morale-boosting experience for him on Wednesday. We wish him all the best.

As for today’s racing we start off with a typical tricky Goodwood 18-runner handicap, but in my opinion there are only a handful of horses that can win this race and my selection is Danadana. Kieren Fallon has already been beaten at 1.01 and 1.02 in-running on two Luca Cumani horses in the last week but I am prepared to stick with the ex-champion' and his mount. It is rare for Mr Fallon to get turned over in close finishes as we all know that he is in possession of all the tricks in the and there are not many jockeys who come out in top against him in a one-on-one.

Danadana has won his last two races but I think there is more to come from this four year old Dubawi colt and the big field will enable Fallon to tuck in and hopefully pounce late as long as he avoids the inevitable trouble in-running that Goodwood produces.

My second selection is up at Ayr. Oddysey let me down last time out when just failing to catch Master Of The Dance at the same track last time out. I don't think the ground was the problem although the thought that Michael Dods’ three-year-old filly may prefer a little bit of cut may possibly be true, she will definitely relish the extra furlong today.

My final selection of the day is back at Goodwood as Michelangelo looks like being a star of the future. He has improved with every run after finishing behind Noble Mission on his debut and John Gosden continues his cracking season. Whatever happens at Goodwood you can guarantee there will some cracking finishes, a huge amount of trouble in-running and one trainer who is back in form with a bang this week is Mark Johnston. He has an excellent record at Goodwood and with his horses often ridden to the fore he will be my trainer to follow on the exchanges this week with a view to my in-running plays.

Good luck today.
