Tanya’s Blog - Festival Trials Day at Cheltenham tomorrow

27 January 2012

Phenomenal fielding by Ben Hilfenhaus this morning, especially when running out Kohli, cricket is such a distraction, hypnotic to some extent, it certainly disturbs sleep patterns.  I’ve gone from Australia to Dubai and at the time of writing soon to be returning to Australia to watch Black Caviar.  Viewing such locations keeps you warm as outside there is a severe frost with the back patio turning into an ice rink, fit for Sunday’s episode of Dancing On Ice!  Let’s hope Jack Frost behaves and has a night indoors.

There is much to look forward to tomorrow, Festival Trials Day at Cheltenham, a fabulous card at Doncaster, get the notebook out for Town Moor, check out their supporting card, AP McCoy is in attendance!

It is hard to get excited about today, reason enough to understand how racing’s share in the betting shop is dwindling all the time.  Looking at what’s on offer even I’d be tempted by an FOBT!  Pause, think again, no I wouldn’t, if it wasn’t part of my job to watch the racing I wouldn’t go in.

OSCARGO was 4-5 favourite to land a highly competitive handicap hurdle at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day.  He was ‘flavour of the month’ having easily accounted for the same rivals a month prior.  Yet a clumsy error at the six of 12 hurdles saw him dispatch of Ruby Walsh.  He has a climbed an incredible distance up the scale, some may think to an extent vertigo is on the cards, however can he be written off so easily.  Harry Derham reduces the burden by 7lb and he Oscargo had flashier entries tomorrow at Cheltenham.  On a quiet day Huntingdon’s 3.10 is by far the best contest on offer for the day.
