So You Think there’s a conspiracy?
6 July 2012
Today’s selection
4.00 Sandown - Cai Shen (each way 7/1 several firms)
It is a shame that So You Think will not be taking part in the Coral-Eclipse, but that is the way of things. I have read the odd conspiracy theory about his non-participation but give them little credence. The horse is lame and thus cannot run, it all seems pretty straightforward to me. This great game of ours is awash with suspicion, conspiracy theories and conjecture which does not do the sport any good and in this instance there is no rat to smell!
My selection yesterday finished fourth, which is no good to man nor beast unless you have laid it on the exchanges. There are no excuses, Joe Fanning did his best but I reckon even Steve Cauthen would have struggled to get Kinloch Castle home in front yesterday. We are therefore on a retrieval mission today and the burden of my selection will have to be carried by Cai Shen in the Listed Gala Stakes at Sandown.
This horse ran an absolute blinder in the Royal Hunt Cup where from stall one he had no chance, but did best of those drawn low and managed to finish sixth having briefly threatened to get involved.
The first seven horses home in that race were drawn thus 33,18,21,13,10,1,29 which nicely illustrates just how well Cai Shen did. It could be argued that he is just a handicapper, but he has good previous form in Listed company and looks sure to run well here. He is a solid 7/1 shot with a number of firms and with just eight runners he makes each-way appeal.
I have a day off today and am planning on taking it easy ahead of a busy day for Racing UK tomorrow. I was looking forward to watching the T20 clash between Lancashire and Yorkshire tonight, but given the weather forecast I am pretty sure the game will be abandoned before the whites and the reds get close to combat.
Enjoy the racing today and stay dry out there.
All the best
