Prolific’s Blog - Its got to be Queally!

3 February 2012

When Frankel scooted up the Rowley Mile in the Guineas last April (how long ago does that seem?) and took the breath away of the viewing public, it was a moment to saver. In the aftermath of that and following subsequent races Tom Queally received his fair share of criticism for his tactics on the superstar. Some say that anyone would have won on such a machine that day and the TQ was simply on the best horse . Well I do not doubt he was on the best horse but we did see something special that day and TQ was part of it, his safe hands have ultimately ensured that Frankel is still unbeatable and has a form line that looks like this:-Flat placings 1111/11111-. That is why I will be voting for TQ for Flat Ride of the year in this years Lester's, you will have your own opinion and can vote her by emailing your vote to thelesters@racingpost.com

A couple of interesting tweets yesterday, one from a disappointed Ruby Walsh after losing his appeal against the ban received on Saturday, this means he will miss the ride on Zarkander in the Betfair Hurdle and top top it off they kept his deposit.

The second one was from a delighted Rio Ferdinand offering ex-Man United now Everton hero Darren Gibson a free meal at his restaurant as a thank you for his winning goal against Man City.

Today

Catterick has already gone so I look to Meydan for some entertainment this morning, mainly a watching brief but I will check the exchanges for a small punt on Tanfeeth, Richard Hills mount in the 2.0, Hills may not be my favourite jockey but he knows his way to the winning post in Dubai and this horse won well last time, should be around 13/2. Earlier in the day I can't see much again between Frankie's Gamilati and Alsindi, Mr Dettori will more than likely come out on top but I will be having a small back/lay bet on both of the runners.

Back to Woverhampton where the weather may be a little cooler today and the kickback a little firmer, Moral Issue Wolverhampton 3.15 has been stepped up in trip and by the way the previous runs have looked it can only help, around 10/1 it will be a rare E/W bet. The only thing that puts me off is the trainers poor strike rate but desicion made. My second Comp. selection is Moderator 3.30Lingfield, who impressed last time and went off at 4/1 for it's maiden which leads me to believe the connections have no qualms about the horses ability and even in this tricky handicap l will be looking for it to finish ahead of Likely favourite Shabora, you can also have a match bet on these two on Betfair. Also keep one eye on Little Garcon 4.20 for Marco Botti sporting blinkers for the first time, Botti has done this a few time before and this course and distance winner can be backed at 20/1.

Lay of the Day

Arkaim paid for my steak and shandy last night by running unplaced yesterday , but Prickles sneaked into 3rd so I skipped dessert, today's LAY selection (2.52 in running win market and 1.88 place market) is:-

Hathaway 2.10 Wolverhampton

Friday Comp Selections

 Moral Issue Wolverhampton 3.15 5pts e/w

 Moderator 3.30Lingfield 1pts win
