Prolific’s Blog - Delegator’s Golden Mile!
17 February 2012
Review and today
Excellent coverage as ever from Racing UK yesterday and it was nice to see Delegator get back to winning ways with a nice ride from Frankie in Dubai. Yes, it’s was only a handicap but back up to a mile on decent ground shows that there is still some ability left in the locker and after last year’s disappointing season maybe there is more to come in races around a similar trip, no more sprinting for Del Boy! Strangely enough the trainer Mr Bin Suroor remarked that a mile was Delegator’s best trip which begs the question of why he pursued the sprint trips for the horse last season?
I was also really impressed by the ride Lucy Alexander gave Red Tanber in at Musselburgh, it was her 23rd winner of the season and she did it really nicely by setting a steady pace, keeping her cool when challenged and giving the horse every opportunity to see every fence in a stride. She surely has a bright future.
Today we finally have a full fixture list and them some with the re-arranged Newbury fixture taking centre stage. Long Run, Zarkander and Sprinter Sacre among others are putting their reputations on the line today in what should be a great afternoon of sport. The Queen has a runner in the form of Open Hearted in the 2.35 Fakenham and this horse would be on a five-timer if not falling three runs back and I see only Kuilsriver as a worry and possible forecast partner for the selection. I am still drawn to Zarkandar in the 1.15 Newbury even though 316 days off the track gives me a little concern and everyone else seems to be finding others to beat the Nicholls horse today, I am going to stick with it as I know Ruby Walsh was more than happy when he found his way around his ban to ride the horse. Other horses today I will be looking at are Sainglend 4.25 Sandown who is currently trading around 20/1 and has a great chance of reaching one of the four places at least. Speedy Yaki in the last at Wolverhampton will hopefully provide a winner in the ‘get out stakes’
