Perhaps a change is as good as a rest?

23 July 2012

A top notch weekend of sport was had this weekend. The Open never fails to shine, the win for Bradley Wiggins in France almost made me get my bike out of the garage ... almost. And the racing was plentiful and of high quality.

My punting went okay but I am still scratching my head to see how Fanunalter won the Summer Mile at Ascot. I backed the horse a couple of times when the-now six-year-old was with Marco Botti and he was hardly inspiring. His form of late has been has been lacklustre at best and he looked like he was on a downward spiral. Yet a switch of stable to Michael Wigham for around £67k and he comes out and wins a Group 2 worth £56k at 33/1.

I can only hope that Mr Wigham and his team had a nice touch but because of the starting price I can only assume that they were as surprised as I was in the improved form shown. I am going to put that under the 'another one that got away file'. Note to self, watch Mr Wigham when he takes in horses from other stables. Marco Botti had a couple of winners on Saturday but I bet he was watching the Ascot race through his fingers as one of his cast offs took a healthy pot in front of the Her Majesty. I wonder if he feels as sick as Adam Scott will do when he wakes up this morning?

Good luck today.
