Olympics are cause for Excelebration

13 August 2012

The Olympic Games was a massive success by anyone's standards. There were 65 medals for Team GB, which ensured we finished third behind China and the USA. The closing ceremony was amazing and we can safely say it had something for everyone. What a difference 12 months makes following the riots of this time last year. My only hope is that all the talk of a legacy being left by the Games doesn't end up being just that and that the last two weeks have just papered over the cracks of the current financial climate.

Back to the horses. I was happy to see one of my favourite horses of this season win another Group One in France on Sunday. Excelebration will be over the moon to not be looking at the backside of Frankel for a change and franks the form of the superstar yet again with an impressive display.

Ride of the weekend without doubt goes to Mirco Demuro on Laser Blazer at Brighton on Friday. It seems a long time ago now when he rode a finish one lap to soon on the all-weather and he redeemed himself completely with this one ride in my opinion.

The favourite fell out of the stalls and was detached by seven lengths by halfway. But to his credit he didn't panic and steadily gathered his mount to pick off his opponents one by one in the final furlong to gain success with a little bit in hand. Very impressive.

Good luck today.
