I’m going to the Zero Money well!

22 August 2012

Tanya's Tips:

2.00 York Zero Money

3.05 York Main Sequence

4.15 York Countrywide Flame

There is a packed, enthusiastic press room for York on Wednesday. I have a dynamic pitch with Chris Dixon to my right and the likes of Bill Barber, David Carr, Jon Lees, Lee Motteshead and Mac to my left.  Plenty of amusement to be had over the four days.

Best wishes to Ryan Moore for a speedy recovery after his fall at Warwick last night.  Frustratingly it leaves it wide open for the jockeys’ title, although Richard Hughes misses the weekend.

I love the Knavesmire, I’ve never made any secret of that. It partly defines a misspent childhood. I have been coming to the racecourse for around 35 years now and I can go through all the corny ‘I remember when moments’ I’m sure I can still smell the essence of chocolate from the derelict Terry’s factory.

Mac has already said I have to calm down. Apparently I’m too fresh after my trips to Lord’s over the weekend.  To watch Dale Steyn live and to see such a close and intensely fought Test match was a treat, so roll on the one-dayers.

I digress and back to the racing at York today.  Rex Imperator’s price collapsed last night once it was known it was Pricewise, yet again I’m going to dip into the Zero Money well, Roger Charlton’s other runner.  More fool me!

I’ve always been a fan of Main Sequence, here’s hoping he can show he is a true favourite by winning the Great Voltigeur.  As for Frankel, I’ll leave it for you to sit back and enjoy, while I will spend the time reminiscing over Terimon’s Juddmonte International a few years ago!

Tanya's pointers:

Juddmonte International:

Aidan O’Brien has had 24 runners in the Juddmonte International with three winners and three seconds.  Aidan has had the favourite in the Juddmonte six times winning with three of them.

Since 1972 only one six-year-old has won the Juddmonte International and only 8 five-year-olds

Five of the last ten favourites have won the Juddmonte International

Frankie Dettori’s last 14 rides in the Juddmonte International have produced five winners

Great Voltigeur:

Since 1991 Frankie Dettori has had 14 rides in the Great Voltigeur winning five times and second on three occasions.

Two of John Gosden’s last three horses to run in the Great Voltigeur have won 2007 Lucarno, 2008 Centennial

Acomb Stakes:

Kieren Fallon has ridden the winner of the Acomb Stakes three times from his last six rides

Six of the last seven winners of the Acomb came into the race unbeaten

Nine of the last ten winners of the Acomb were priced no bigger 7-2

Other pointers:

From his last 15 runners Peter Chapple-Hyam has had only two horses finish out of the first three and has had seven winners!

Roger Varian has had four winners and two seconds from his last seven runners

David Simcock has had nine winners from his last 20 runners

Michael J M Murphy has had 10 winners from his last 21 rides

Phillip Makin has won four times and finished second twice on Le Toreador from 13 races
