Resident tipster
If Kieren says it will win, it will win!
18 August 2012
Well I survived the sleepover last night and the only damage to the mansion was a radiator hanging off the wall, which can only be described as a success. I wonder what the collective term for a group of ten 14-year old girls is? I am going to go with a 'stampede'.
Yesterday's tip thankfully came in and Jade, who was backed down to 6/1 from 20's the night before was a welcome winner for the Blog. I thought she won with a little in hand and could win again if turned out again quickly. Fingers crossed I can continue the run with today's selections and as there is a lot of racing today. I will crack on with my view of today's cards.
Newmarket:
The all grey race at 2.45 is always a wonderful spectacle to see but I bet its is as tricky a race to commentate on as it is to find the winner, so I will leave that one alone. I will stick with Galician for Mark Johnston, who got going far too late at Ascot last week at the Shergar Cup meeting and I would guess that Robert Havlin will be riding a little closer to the pace today. Fury ran no sort of a race last time and is better than that he is a solid 2/1 chance in the 3.55. Intrepid should get the day off to a decent start for Jeremy Noseda in the first.
Newbury:
I still can't believe how well Mount Athos won last time out at York and although this is another step up in class Mr Fallon has indicated that this horse can go on and be a Melbourne Cup horse. He will need to win today to do that but I am not going to tell Kieren he is wrong and will put him up as my first Blog selection.
The Dascombe stable is in great form and I can see Brown Panther following my selection home for the forecast. John Oxx has sent Alanza over in search of better ground and although I like the look of Soul's form I am going to go with Alanza. Valery Borzov ran well in defeat behind Johannes at Goodwood and has dropped to a winnable mark in the big handicap at 3.40
Chester:
Dr Koukash has plenty of runners at his beloved Chester today. I will be backing his Address Unknown in the 3.00 but laying the disappointing and one paced Kimbali in the last.
Ripon:
I backed Grissom at Goodwood and even though he caught a little bit of interference he was still only beaten four lengths. I am going to have a small punt on him in the Great St Wilfred and because I am guessing that the low draw is the way to go, I will have a small saver on Lexi's Hero on the other side of the track. Watch out for Headspace who was heavily backed to win at Goodwood a couple of weeks ago in the 2.20
Perth and Lingfield:
Hawkhill trotted up for Tim Vaughan on his latest outing and has nothing to beat in the 3.10 at Perth and Frankie can have a double at Lingfield with Snowboarder in the 6.30 and Capital Gain for Brian Meehan in the 7.0
The Premier League is back today and I look forward to the return Match of the Day and lots of high scoring games this season. This year I will be covering the 3-2, 2-3, 3-3 scorelines in the TV games as I did last year with great success and my team to take on this year will be the Villa who have been threatening to go down for several years now and are 7/1 to finally do it this season. I will start off with a penalty kick with West Ham to beat them today at 6/5 (No abuse Villa fans, please it's just a game!)
Good luck today.

Dear Racing Uk, Ladbrokes have replaced David Yates with Emma Spencer as their tipster. I notice that more and more Dave Yates - Newsboy of the Daily Mirror- is boosting his bank balance by working for Racing Uk. Please, please offer this man a full-time job will you. He might then do us all a favour and leave the Mirror and we could get a good News Boy. Yet again Mr Yates is bottom of the Racing Post Naps Table. I have been getting the Mirror for years and cannot remember the last time he made a profit. If he is going to continue his calamitous career, should he not be sitting at home studying his form book, rather than moonlighting on the tele? The Mirror could do a lot worse than employ John McWhinnie, who either did or still does write this blog. He had a 6-1 nap, yesterday.Thank you, George Derek Atkinson
