Can the day start any worse?
30 August 2012
2.40 Hamilton - Celestial Dawn
The day could have started better. For one it is raining yet again. Secondly I had hardly got the sleep out of my eyes when the window cleaner knocked on the door looking for seven quid for two minutes work. Yes he was wearing a stripy jumper and a mask and yes he did see me coming. At least the dirty streaks on the windows are now in a different place! Then to cap it all having made my first cup of tea there was a knock on the door. I immediately thought it would be the window cleaner asking for an advance payment for next month, but no it was the recycling boys complaining that I had put a bottle in the box meant for cardboard! Honestly what did he want me to say, and did he really want me to come out and move the bottle from one box to another?
I insisted that this was a mistake on my part and apologised. He then proceeded to tell me that it was raining and he was going to get wetter than he should if he had to stop and explain to people like me the principles of recycling. What can you do, I just wanted rid of him, so I said sorry again and shut the door. My next encounter was a legitimate one, it was the postman with a letter to sign for, no problem, but as I took the post off him I saw the bottle that should now be on the recycling lorry sat on my doorstep! I give up, time to shut the door and not move for anyone. All of this before 9.30am, it is not going to be my day.
Hamilton passed an early morning inspection, just before the window cleaner rocked up and my selection today comes from there. I like Celestial Dawn in the 2.40. This filly won at this track six days ago, finishing strongly off a fast pace to win going away in the end. She loves soft ground and should get a good gallop to run at again today. She really revels in the mud and it will be very testing there today. She will be about 4/1, which is value in a modest handicap where she is officially the best horse in the race.
Let’s hope Celestial can go in for us today and help us get on a roll going into a busy weekend on Racing UK.
