Can Nathaniel improve again?
17 July 2012
John Gosden reports Nathaniel has 'impressed him' in his work in the run up to the King George this weekend - not what you want to hear if you are one of his challengers this year as his form has been top notch all season. I will post a full preview of the big race on Saturday when we know the state of the ground at Ascot.
As far as the Open is concerned I have had a look at the course, the weather and the statistics for Royal Lytham and have narrowed it down to the following four players. They may not be long hitters but they are high up in the driving accuracy tables and have played well on links courses under similar conditions before. Take a look at : K.J Choi (140/1) Steve Stricker (80/1) Graham McDowell (33/1) and a long shot Geoff Ogilvy (220/1), who may be one to spring a shock result.
I don't fancy Tiger Woods this week, but I am looking forward to an early start on the course on Thursday and then a lazy Sunday afternoon in front of the TV watching the final round.
No competition selections today but I like the look of Pettochside in the 7.20 at Yarmouth tonight and will be laying Vegas Belle in the 8.00 at Southwell and Mingun Bell in the 7.30.
Good luck today.
